PAUL KARSLAKE

Karslake, the brother-in-law of Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood famed for his epic-scale paintings and unique artworks, including a 45-foot cougar head on a Boeing 727 aircraft, a Beyonce portrait on a Harley Davidson and customised guitars for Ronnie Wood, Keith Richards, Pete Townshend and Brian May, was inspired to transform the street art of Banksy, the modern art world’s most celebrated innovator, and take these seminal works back in time by reconstructing them as fine art paintings. From ‘Pulp Fiction’, ‘Gorilla in a Pink Mask’ and Riot Cop to ‘Mona Lisa’ and ‘Queen Ziggy’, Karslake adapts the medium replacing Banksy’s distinctive stencilling technique with his own signature style, which combines airbrushing and hand-painting with a unique ageing technique, to create a polished and photographic feel. Each painting is showcased in a custom-made antique-style frame embedded with skulls, instantly transforming street art into sumptuous fine art paintings.
